Inspired by new and old printmaking techniques

A New Chapter
In January I started out on my new adventure and career, print making and painting.

I was lucky to have a couple of early commissions from people that I know.  These have been exciting and challenging in equal measure.  Both projects have provided amazing learning opportunities.  More on that in later posts.

Learning the Craft at Wivenhoe Printworks
I have set myself some goals just for the first quarter of the year to get things going.  One of these was to become a better printmaker and learn some new techniques.  As a first set I became a member of the Wivenhoe Printworks.  On my first induction I was excited to see all the materials and equipment for all various print techniques, most of which I have not tried before.

Old Machines, New Tech: Blending Letterpress with 3D Printing
One of these were the letterpress machines in the corner and the old wooden type set.  Later in the year I would like to make some new 3d printed blocks for the letter press once I have tried using it.

Improvements in Home Studio
I learned a lot from my first session at Wivenhoe. New inks to try to get better detail in the prints.  Techniques to improve registration of multi-colour prints and how to prevent the roller from moving the paper on the block.  I went home and immediately ordered new ink and designed some 3d printed ramps for my home press set up.
Both of these have improved the prints I am able to produce at home.

I am looking forward to learning more as the year progresses.
